What population is BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS (BBBS) designed to target?

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS (BBBS) targets youth ages 6 to 18 years and aims to develop supportive relationships between targeted youth and caring adults. Each BBBS affiliate identifies their geographic recruitment catchment area, target population, and criteria for youth eligibility.

Adults wishing to become a volunteer mentor are carefully screened and must fulfill the following requirements before matching occurs:

  • Complete an application
  • Provide references
  • Submit to a criminal history record check
  • Participate in an in-person interview
  • Undergo an assessment of their home environment
